1000 tests and counting
The ZLA Pilot Certification Program hit a significant milestone this afternoon, serving up its 1000'th test.
Graeme Florance took his V2 (999'th) and V3 (1000'th) rating in quick succession whilst under the control of Jim Johnson. Graeme is a visiting Chicago controller and completed his V1 rating the previous week at Las Vegas.
This program was launched in Oct 2006 with the aim of providing a fun environment to learn more about how to fly on the network, and to help pilots take their flying to the next level. 1000 flights later, it's still going strong, having recently added two new ratings, with two more to come in the near future.
The future plans for the program do not represent much of a departure from the current format. There are no plans to introduce massive numbers of ratings, or to overhaul the process. It appears to be working, slowly, but steadily. At the time of writing, there were:
- 178 pilots who had completed at least one rating,
- 66 pilots who completed the original program,
- 11 pilots who completed all ratings (including the 2 newly launched ratings on Feb 25)
- 7 VA's that have formally partnered with the program
There are plans to add an integrated message boards for registered members, a small number of additional ratings available exclusively to program graduates, and additional bonus content for program members.
Thanks to the ZLA controllers that have supported the program over the last 18 months, to all the pilots who have to use the program in the past, and to those who are currently pursuing their ratings. Special thanks, also, to Wayne Conrad for his help with maintaining the site.
In absence of a specific forum, feedback (positive or otherwise) is always welcome, and encouraged using the Feedback link on the left.
