ZLA Pilot Cert Center handles 100th pilot
The ZLA Pilot Certification Center, opened in Oct
of last year, recently served up a rating to its 100th customer. 41
pilots have completed all 10 ratings (3 VFR and 7 IFR).
580 rating attempts have been logged, representing strong interest
in the program from pilots, and continuing ATC support from the ZLA
controllers.
Pilots can attempt a rating any time the required positions are
staffed. In addition, we try extra hard to be online on Thursday
evenings to provide staffing for the ratings.
The site contains plenty of reference material, and even ATC
transcripts of what you can expect to hear during every single flight.
There are no written tests, all of the tests are completed in the
airplane on the network.
California Airlines, UPS and Virtual Continental have signed up as
program partners, and have their own rosters on the site. The future
for the program looks very bright, with a few additional ratings being
added in the future.
Thanks to the ZLA controllers for continuing to support this
program, and to the pilots for giving it a try. Special thanks, too, to
Wayne Conrad who processes all of the test results.
